Darwin's Rebecca Smyth was diagnosed with breast cancer late last year, after a string of topsy-turvy years.
A cartoon just appeared in her head that same day, and as she drew it later she realised that this could be a coping mechanism. This series just kept growing as Rebecca progressed through surgery, chemo, radiation and a long slow recovery.
When it was all just getting too depressing and bleak she saw an exhibition of Brian Bulley's whimsical artworks, and it inspired the Owl and the Pussycat to come out to play for a while, as a bit of relief.
Join us for the opening of Rebecca's exhibition and journey into the ups and downs of her diagnosis, treatment and subsequent recovery.

Explore the 'Palimpsest of Life' exhibition, a thought-provoking visual arts project that reimagines memento mori. This PhD journey connects a personal reflection on death to the global warning of the Anthropocene. Concepts are explored through portraiture and suggested landscapes, reflecting on life's fleeting nature and our collective legacy.
The Bukaway group based in Nhulunbuy create stunning metal art using the ancient lost wax casting technique. Made from recycled aluminium, their sculptures bring Dreaming stories to life. Visit the exhibition to experience their shimmering totems and deep connection to North East Arnhem Land.
Karen Fletcher: Author, Artist, Activist. I am a carpenter, painter, mosaic artist, sculptor, and more. My art is diverse and ever-evolving. As a mother to many, I use art therapy to create a sanctuary at home and create thought-provoking pieces for others to own.

Experience the captivating "Natural Elements," exhibition by Eddie Janama Kitching and Denise van Horen. Eddie, a local Aboriginal artist from Darwin, showcases vibrant textures of landscapes, waterways, and ancestral tales from his Grandmother's Tanami desert and Larrakia Grandfather's Saltwater/Waterlily region, reflecting deep cultural ties to these lands. Denise, from the Blue Mountains, will exhibit a collection of Mobile sculptures made from various natural and found elements, with a focus on movement and balance. She seeks to evoke a sense of wonder and playfulness in those who encounter them. Together, their works offer an immersive journey into the beauty and complexity of their natural surroundings.
City of Darwin’s LAUNCH youth program provides young people in Darwin with opportunities to connect, build skills and contribute to their community. An annual showcase of new unreleased works by visual artists aged 12-25 Secret Art reflects the incredible talent brewing around Darwin and beyond.
Triptych is a glimpse into the work of three Top End contemporary visual artists. Migs Ellaga, photographic street documenter, Jesse Milne, painter and sculptor, and Jacob Hazeldine, filmmaker and photographer. Each artist will have three works on display that reflect the Top End according to their experiences.
