Margaret Gleeson Briscoe Penangke
My inspirations and ideas with my artwork is the connecting of people to themselves, each other, to country and to the richness of first nations people and culture
Some of the benefits I receive is the touching with the wonder and beauty of our natural world and the sheer joy I share when people find healing value and connection in my art works.
For many years I had the yearning to connect with family from the desert. This journey bought me to Alice Springs where I met my Central Australian Briscoe Family, and realised my calling to country and rich ancestral ties. That coming together rekindled family bonds and through art has connected me with my ancestral family, stories and homeland.
I have been given permission to paint certain aspects of my cultural connection and am honoured to be able to share some threads of this deep and rich Australian historical tapestry from the ‘Anmatyerre’ first nations people.
I grew up in Adelaide, and hold a passion and love for painting often fuelled through my love of colour.
Sitting down with family members, with pallets of paint and canvas, has opened a world that connects me to a living past and a rapidly changing future where I can share my place and story with design and expression through colour, in the footsteps of my family and the back drop of my Welsh and Aboriginal ancestry.
